At the 10th and 11th of October, Vana Events brings you Nox Obscura!
A fantastic Steampunk and Gothic festival which has a great variation of things to see and to do: a great band line-up: Diablo Swing Orchestra, Coppelius, Edo Notarloberti and more bands from all over Europe are to be announced! Weird artists, a market full of beautiful wares and some freaky acts and shows...
This festival will be held at an old factory in Nijmegen (NL), near the German border. This factory is a perfect steamy location for a unique festival. For program-updates, info and tickets, check http://www.nox-obscura.nl.
Diablo Swing Orchestra (S)
Call it swing! Call it a Big Band, call it metal, ballroom, Gothic or jazz, call them weird, indescribably, but most of all, call them Diablo Swing Orchestra. This extravagant musical group hailing from Sweden grabs every possible genre and mashes it up in one big batch of adrenalin At Nox Obscura 2009 Diablo Swing Orchestra will present their new CD "Sing Along Songs for the Damned & Delirious" which is due to be released the 21st of September.
Their new album brings forth new influences and further exploration of their unique sound. Their line-up of guitar, cello, bass guitar, drums and a wonderful female voice promises an exciting show. And albeit they might not be very exclusive to Nox Obscura like some of the other bands in our line-up they are however the perfect band to end our Saturday in style. Be sure to have some energy left as Diablo Swing Orchestra takes the stages.

Coppelius (D)
Once a coverband of metal songs Coppelius now mainly plays their own songs. In Germany the band has toured with Subway to Sally and Letzte Instanz along others. Their music shows some similarities. Powerful metal influenced by folk music, made possible by the use of clarinet, cello and bass. The new CD "Tumult" is filled with it. But the band hasn't forgotten about covers, which shows in the cover of 'Charlotte The Harlot' of Iron Maiden. Coppelius is a true spectacle, with costumes and a great liveshow. Coppelius is a party on stage and their performance at Nox Obscura will be the first in the Benelux area!

Collection D’Arnell Andrea (F)
This year we (finally) won't have to go to Germany, Belgium or France to see this group perform. Eventhough this band has been releasing wonderful albums since the 80s they have nevertheless performed on a Dutch venue. Collection D'Arnell Andrea is hard to assign to a specific genre of music. While one song might lean towards the (dark) wave style, others seem more inspired by classical or folk music.
The brilliance of Collection D'Arnell is that they seamlessly mix these styles into their own unique flavor of music. Through use of the cello, violin, keyboards, bass guitar, drum (computers) and they unique singing of Chloé they are able to play songs that are melancholic, unique, confronting and above all wonderful. During live performances these sounds are accompanied by a fitting range of video images. Saturday and Sunday, exclusively, on stage at Nox Obscura!

Edo Notarloberti (I)
Edo Notarbolerti is known as a true virtuoso from Ashram and Riccardo Prencipe's Corde Oblique. With Ashram he is known for his emotional, melancholic play and with Corde Oblique for the more rapid play styles of the violin. His 2008 album 'Silent Prayers', released at Ark Records, has shown us that Edo can truly do anything. Pop, rock, classical and folk music all make their appearance on this album. Live Edo is surrounded by the standard rock formation (bass guitar, guitar, drums and keyboards) and his (belly)dancing wife.
Edo proves that playing a solo on a violin can be just as impressive as playing a solo on any guitar. Even better, he manages to do what others can only achieve with lots of sampling and computer editing. The violinist is just as practiced at playing Bach as he is at playing System of a Down. His Saturday and Sunday performances will be his introduction to the Benelux area! A must see!

DJ Beautevil (NL)
DJ Beautevil is mainly known because of his "Unknown Pleasure" evenings, but he also helped at "InDeepEnd" and was a guest DJ at "Goth's Fantasy/Gothic Erotic". You can expect to hear a perfect blend of medieval, (neo)folk, (dark)wave, Gothic and eighties in between the performances on stage. AND
Projekt Kontrol presenteert: Podzzzzz
Project Kontrol had their debut on the very first Nox Obscura and this year they once more grace us with their shows. On this edition of Nox they will be performing, for the very first time, their new show; Podzzzzz!
Last year a dark and scary trainmaintanance chamber was their domain. This year they will transform the terrain around the Vasim into their personal playground where they will perform several times a day.
Let yourself be taken into the fantastic world of weird machines and odd structures, see how these machines come to life thanks to water, fire, steam and the Podzzzzz!
Due to a lack of interest we are forced to cancel Nox Obscura. Despite the extra promotion during the last few weeks, the ticket sales and website visits didn't show sufficient results. We couldn't guarantee that this event would be a success for either visitors or shop exhibitors. With deep regret we would rather cancel Nox Obscura, instead of organizing an event that didn't 100% fulfill the usual Vana quality standards.
People who have already bought a ticket can of course get their money back. Alternatively we offer that you are able to use your Nox Obscura ticket as a ticket for Keltfest or Castlefest!
Although we’ve had to cancel Nox Obscura this year, it doesn’t mean Steampunk in the Netherlands will end. We saw so many people last year who were inspired by it that we will introduce the theme to some activities at Castlefest 2010. We hope we’ll see you all there in your beautiful Steampunk costumes!
